Been enjoying American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare, the sixth installment of FX’s anthology series? Well it doesn’t really matter, because the rest of the season is going to be drastically different, as revealed in tonight’s sixth episode.

Fans have been informed that the “R-rated” show’s sixth episode basically turns everything we know so far about this season on its head.

Co-creator and Hollywood IT man Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly on a conference call just this morning, “It’s the biggest plot twist we’ve ever done on the show.”

If you’re caught up, you know that the Roanake storyline involving Matt and Shelby looked as though it came to its conclusion last week. Murphy continues, “The season was sort of written as if the season was two different shows. Something happens where half the cast is revealed to be playing and doing something absolutely different than you’ve seen in the first five. There’s a startling announcement at the end of act 3 that resets the rest of the season up until episode 10.”

More factoids gathered from the EW/Murphy conversation:

  • Both Taissa Farmiga and Finn Wittrock will begin appearing on AHS: Roanoke.  Farmiga hasn’t been on the show since season three’s Coven. Murphy said her absence was simply an issue of finding the right part for her. Finn’s character from Freak Show, Dandy Mott, is a descendant of the Edward Phillipe Mott, the original builder of the house on the cursed Roanoke land. We meet Edward in Roanoke’s last episode (5), played by show regular and fan favorite Evan Peters.
  • Murphy confirmed that Lady Gaga’s evil witch character on Roanoke is the very FIRST Supreme witch, a nod to season 3’s Coven. Holy shit!

  • Murphy confirms they will return to the Coven season in the future! “At some point, we’re going to do a return to the Coven season. I don’t know what season that will be.” This is good news for those who enjoyed that season but perhaps not for those who didn’t love it.
  • AHS season 7 will also connect to a previous season. “Next year, we will be going back to some Freak Show characters, deeper histories and mythhologies. So we’re sort of still exploring season 4 in season 7.” Again, cool news for those who enjoyed the freaky circus storyline but I know plenty who were not fans.

  • In terms of this season’s episode 10, “The finale is the wrap-up to Roanoke but the mythology and some of the characters will continue in subsequent seasons. So it’s the ending but not the ending.”

As someone has enjoyed every season, this is all good news to me! But let’s hope Murphy and the gang keep things exciting and fresh.

Happy horror watching everyone!
